Exploding Soap Experiment

Want a quick, fun, and easy experiment to do with your kids or students? Check out the Ivory Soap experiment below.

We've all heard of the soap that floats, right? Ivory soap does another trick as well-- it explodes into a fluffy cloud of wonder

Follow these steps to fascinate your young learners in this fun sensory experiment.

1. Grab a bar of Ivory soap.

2. Place on a microwaveable plate.

3. Microwave for 1 minute. Don't take your eyes off of it! This is where the transformation happens.

4. Pull out the newly created soap cloud and let it cool for 2 minutes.

5. Play away!

This experiment provides a great scientific method opportunity. Ask your kids to record their observations of the soap before and after microwaving it, as well as their hypotheses about what will happen to the soap. Then they can record the results and confirm or reject their hypothesis!
